On September 26, 2022, Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) announced new amendments to the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations (Temporary Foreign Workers). Thirteen new regulatory amendments were established to better protect temporary foreign workers (TFWs) and improve the strength and efficacy of the TFW Program and the International Mobility Program (IMP). The new rules protecting TFWs will help to avoid abuse and maltreatment while they are in Canada. Employers must give workers details about their rights in this country, cannot punish them for complaining (or taking other action), and also cannot make them pay recruitment fees. Furthermore, businesses will be held answerable for the actions of any recruiters they use.
