A new study reveals that international student graduates from the University of Waterloo significantly outperform their Canadian-born counterparts. The research, which analyzed student records, immigration data, and tax returns, found that international graduates from 2017-19 earned 37% more than domestic graduates one year after completion, with average earnings of $57,500 compared to $42,000. The trend continues throughout their careers, with international graduates reaching $100,000-120,000 after 13 years, surpassing the $100,000 average for Canadian-born graduates. This success is primarily attributed to the university’s strong focus on technology and engineering programs, where international students are heavily represented. Notably, the study also found that 70% of the University of Waterloo’s international students eventually become permanent residents, far exceeding the national average.
