Seneca Polytechnic has announced a temporary closure of its campus located north of Toronto due to recent federal government cuts affecting international student permits. The college anticipates these reductions will lead to a drop in enrollment, making closing its Markham, Ontario, campus necessary. The closure will take effect after the fall 2024 term. Programs initially planned for the Markham location will be relocated to the Newnham and Seneca@York campuses in Toronto starting in the winter 2025 term. As part of its plan, Canada aims to limit the issuance of international student permits to 437,000 for the years 2025 and 2026.
